Ventura's skyline is graced by the iconic silhouette of Two Trees, a cherished landmark atop the hills of Rancho Ventura Conservation Trust. This duo, rooted in history, embodies the spirit of resilience and community pride.
In the expanses of Rancho Ventura, the tale of Two Trees begins with Joseph Sexton, a pioneering horticulturist of the late 19th century. His vision led to the planting of thirteen Blue Gum trees, marking the landscape with a promise of growth and vitality. Yet, not all would stand the test of time. Battling wildfires and the scars of vandalism, only a pair remained, earning the moniker "Two Trees." These survivors stood tall, embodying Ventura's spirit of resilience and continuity.
More HistoryOn Earth Day in 2017, the Rancho Ventura Conservation Trust endeavored to honor the legacy of the iconic Two Trees by planting a new Eucalyptus tree, aiming to continue the lineage of the originals from the 1800's. Unfortunately, this new tree succumbed to gophers within eighteen months, a period during which the last original tree also perished. In response, Rich and his team planted two more trees in December 2018, reaffirming their dedication to preserving the symbol of Ventura's resilience and history despite nature's challenges.
Two Trees in Ventura are a pair of blue gum Eucalyptus trees situated atop the hills above the city. Despite their name, they are actually two separate trees, known for their prominent presence on Ventura’s skyline.
